Mustang receives increasing number of domestic tourists

Nov 13, 2015- At a time when foreign tourist flow has reportedly declined following the devastating earthquake of April 25 and frequent agitations in Nepal, Mustang is not likely to suffer from this incident with the flow of domestic tourists increasing in the tourist destination area lately. Khagendra Tulachan, chairman of the Mustang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that more than 300 hotels in the district are seen packed with a large number of domestic tourists in recent period. “The number of domestic tourists visiting the tourist hub by air or road has increased. Now tourism business of Mustang depends on domestic tourists to run,” he said. Tulachan said that although exact number of domestic tourists is yet to be ascertained, many hotels in the district largely depend on domestic tourists to operate since two years as ‘the flow of foreign tourists is declining every year’. “The culture of Nepali people visiting different places and enjoying is developing. Among those making their trip here are government staffers, students and teachers, who want to make their holiday more enjoyable,” he said. Muktinath Temple, Kagbeni, Tibetan art and culture and natural beauty of the district are among major attractions for tourists.
